Rodin's art reflects his journey from realism to abstraction, highlighting both Latvian rural landscapes and episodes of everyday life. WE INVITE YOU TO VISIT ALEXANDER RODIN'S SOLO EXHIBITION "MOOD, COLOR, TEXTURE". FROM 12.12.2024 TO 28.01.2025 Aleksandrs Rodins (1922–2001) was an outstanding Latvian artist. Rodins created art that combined logical compositional structure with deep emotional resonance, creating works that appealed to the viewer with their simplicity and power.His art is a striking example of the fusion of simple yet expressive composition and dramatic color contrasts.He became a highly acclaimed artist at the Art Academy of Latvia. His diploma work, “On the Hunt,” was completed under the supervision of V. Kozin.After the war, Rodins worked as an art teacher at various secondary schools in Riga, including the Janis Rozentals Riga Art School, where he taught special subjects.He joined the Artists’ Union in 1959 and has been participating in exhibitions since 1956.Rodins’ early paintings often reflected his roots and experiences – themes of war, rural life, and depictions of ordinary people. During this time, he focused on details, logical composition, and careful color balance characteristic of the classical realist tradition. He paints simple but meaningful scenes documenting everyday life.The works are characterized by rural themes and simple landscapes, but emotionally rich.Rodin's landscapes are full of life and atmosphere, they reveal his ability to convey the beauty and changing light of Latvian nature. The author shows an interest in the details of everyday life and the ability to create depth even in simple themes.Winter landscapes with houses and bare trees Rodin demonstrates his ability to convey the mood of the Latvian village with expressive, textured brushstrokes.These works well describe his laconic and dramatic style, in which simplicity and harmonious composition prevail.The artistic development of Alexander Rodin really demonstrates an interesting transition from an initially realistic approach to a more abstract and expressive style, which further enriched his works.Transition to abstractionOver time, Rodin's style became freer, and more dynamic brushstrokes, stronger texture and emotional expressiveness began to prevail in his works. He moved away from concrete form and detail to works based more on feeling, mood and the play of colour. He uses layered brushstrokes and contrasting areas of colour that create an expressive, almost abstract impression.Abstract Expressionism in Still Lifes.Still lifes are more expressive of his abstract tendencies, depicting objects with much more emphasis on form, colour and texture than on working out precise details. At this stage, he was less concerned with showing the subject as such, focusing more on the mood emanating from the subject.Rodin’s late period works demonstrate his creative boldness and ability to experiment, transforming traditional scenes into dynamic plays of colour, light and form. This move towards abstraction made his art more versatile and gave it a more universal emotional resonance.Still lifes in particular show his move from classical form to abstract composition. Look at the textural and colour solutions that are as important as the objects themselves.Starts on December 12 at 17:00. For the artist, the arrangement of elements in the picture is of primary importance, but the color scheme is also important, these two factors form the overall structure or composition of the work of art.An essential characteristic of the work of Ansis Butnors is the use of various basic principles of composition, and, according to the artist himself, although this is very good, it cannot create the impression of the exhibition as something unified, integral.Ansis Butnors was born in 1977. Educated at the Janis Rozentals Riga Art School and the Latvian Academy of Arts. Since 2002, he has participated in exhibitions in Latvia and abroad.
