Kārlis Brencēns. The head of a master class at Stiglich Central Technical Drawing School in Petersburg. An artist, who is known as an outstanding drawer and later a professor at the Academy of Arts, has recorded his own impressions at
the time of studying in Paris. In difference to his other realistic work, foregrounding of geometric forms, typical of the period,
is seen in this work. The boat, moored askew, and the sharpness of chiaroscuro, characteristic of the author, create an inimitable
atmosphere of a sunny mid-day.
