Jānis Valters. At the turn of the 19th–20th centuries the outstanding painter Jānis Valters together with Janis Rozentāls
and Vilhelms Purvītis signifi cantly facilitated the establishment of national painting in Latvia. Since 1906 the artist
worked in Germany. The landscapes created during this period are more abstract, dynamic and colourful. The artist’s creative work
presents a broad range of styles, with outstanding artworks having been created in each stage of stylistic development.
