Boriss Bērziņš. One of the most outstanding Latvian post-war painters, renown for his nudes and fi gural compositions in honeyed tones,
in his early works revealed himself as a relaxed juggler with bright colours. An effective play of accents in vivid
colours on the grey background. During this period the artist often used pure colours, even straight from tubes, marking himself as an
avant-garde artist, before gaining the status of a classic later on.
