Janis Osis (1926.10.IV – 1991.22.VII)

His first skills in art got at his uncle – painter A. Stunda. In 1951 he graduated Latvia Art academy with diploma work “Latvian fishermen”. This work was exhibited in 8th international biennial in Venice (1956) and it’s placed in Tretjakov gallery.

Artist took part in exhibitions since 1951.
Self-exhibitions were made in Krasnojarsk and Tomsk (1971, together with S. Kreics and A. Zviedris), Lielupe (1972), Ventspils (1972, 1978).

J. Osis was a member of Artists Union (since 1956).

Artist worked as a teacher in J. Rozentals Riga School of art.

He was awarded with 3rd premium in competition of art education institutions in Moscow (1950), with silver medal for “The best work of fine arts” and 2nd rank diploma of USSR Art academy (1958).
