Evalds Dajevskis (1914 - 1990)

He lived between the two historical periods of the 20th century - beginning of the First World War in August 1914 and the collapse of the Soviet Union, when Latvia regained its independence.

Artist was born not in Liepaja, but Ewald Daevskis always proud to say that he is Liepaja`s city townsman. Liepaja is the place where the artist's creative personality was formed.

It happened in the Liepaja Art Secondary School, where his teachers were Janis Sudmalis, Hermanis Aplocinss Nora Drapche. In the period from 1940 to 1944, Ewald Daevskis worked in Liepaja Theatre, where he had the opportunity to improve their skills with decorator Arthur Baumann. As great authority in artist life should also be noted Ansis Cirulis, which was in united spiritual closeness and friendship with Janis Sudmalis.

After World War II Ewald Daevskis worked as designer and painter in post-war Germany and the United States, which inspired Daevskisa, but New York took him completely under his own power. However, in the works of "On Broadway" and "at Lincoln Center," it can be seen that the Latvian theater does not give to forget itself, which for E.Devskisa was a great love. In the US, he designing scenery  for more than 20 Latvian plays.
