Alfejs Bromults (1913.3.IV – 1991.11.I)

Alfej Bromults received his first professional education at Tautas University under R. Suta, J. Bīne and G. Šķilters. From 1938 he studied in J. Tillberg's studio, in 1940-44 years - at the Latvian Art Academy. He considered K. Ubāns, K. Miesnieks, and V. Purvītis as the most important educators. With L. Liberts, the head of Figurative Painting Master Workshop, he started the diploma work "The Annual Market", which was left unfinished due to war conditions.

A. Bromults served in the Latvian army (1935 – 36), worked as a photo retoucher (1936 – 40), participated in the battles of the legionnaires in the Kurzeme cauldron (1944 – 45), worked in agricultural work in the filtration camp (1945 – 48), as an artist performer of the combine "Art ” in the portrait workshop (1948 – 52).

The artist has participated in exhibitions since 1943. The most important exhibitions were held in Tukum (1959), Riga (1959, 1976, 1987, 1988), Cesis, Madona (1960), Dobele (1963), Rēzekne (1964), Joniški, Lithuania (1976), Sukhum, Abkhazia (1977), In Roja (1978), Limbaži (1981), Liezere (1983), Saldu (1988), memorial exhibition - in Riga, St. Peter's Church (1991).

His works are also exhibited abroad - in Russia (Moscow), Australia, USA, England and Finland.

A. Bromults was a member of the Union of Artists from 1957.

The artist painted mainly portraits, landscapes and flowers. Portrait of cultural workers of Latvia. A realist. In the works, colorful, plastically expressive drawing, heightened expression is of great importance, not only in terms of colors, but also in the intense finishing of the surface of the painting.

For his achievements in art in 1972, Bromults received gratitude from the Union of Artists.
He was one of the most popular painters of his generation.
