Mara Zitare (1937-2018)
1951-1955 – studies at J. Rozentals Art School
1955-1961 – the Art Academy of Latvia. Her diploma work was exhibited in Moscow.
Participates in exhibitions since 1963.
A Member of the Artists’ Union since 1970.
She has worked also as a teacher – at the Applied Arts School.
For the last 35 years (starting with 1978), she is the Head of painting studio „Umbra”.
M.Zitare has participated in exhibitions abroad with her paintings owned by the Fund of the Artists’ Union of Latvia – in Austria, Finland, India, Greece, Japan, France, Germany, Poland.
She has taken part in the exhibitions of Latvian paintings in St Petersburg (1983) and Moscow (1984).
Most important local exhibitions – in the exhibition hall of the Artists’ House, Reutern House, the Latvian National Art Museum, in the gallery „Riga”, in the exhibition hall of Latvian Society House.
Solo exhibitions – in Riga (1975, 1983, 1994, 1997, 1999), and in Tukums, Jēkabpils and Koknese Museums, at the culture clubs of Bauska and Ventspils as well asi n smaller towns like Roja, Engure, Mērsrags, Lielupe yacht club, etc.
Paintings are in the following collections:
The National Arts Museum, the collection of the Artists’ Union, Tukums Museum, Moscow Arts Fund as well asi n private collections in France, Sweden, Japan, the United Kingdom etc.
