Voldemars Caune (1901-1975)
In 1929 graduated from the Art Academy of Latvia, figural painting workshop; Doploma work - "Fishermen" (leader J. Tilbergs).
After academy graduating, he works as a drawing teacher, after the war - as an artist in the Combine "Art".
Participated in exhibitions since 1928 - at the exhibition of 10th Latvian anniversary participated with the painting "1919" (also known as "Fight on the Lubeck Bridge"). From this painting began his artworks series dedicated to the struggle for Latvian freedom - "Christmas Eve in the Tyrian Marsh in 1916", "Colonel Briedies on the Dead Island", "Winners". All these works during the Soviet period were destroyed.
In the second half of the 1930s, the artist's paintings were devoted to the fishermen life and work (The Sea Wealth, 1936, The Old Fishermen, 1936, The Vessel of Ronsaliesh, 1939). He also painted everyday scenes of ordinary people, often with ironic connotations ("Card Games", "Stone Age", 1934.
He worked also in printed graphics, was engaged in rooms decorating.
Before the Second World War he worked outside of artistic activity, participated only in annual joint exhibitions.
