Arijs Skride (1906.24.IX Madonna parish – 1987.22.XI Riga), painter.

Arijs Skride was born into a farmer's family. Wife Gundega Vaska – graphic artist.

At the age of 15, he passed the entrance exams and was admitted to the Academy of Arts. Graduated from the V. Purvītis Landscape Painting Master's Workshop of the Latvian Academy of Arts (1932) with the diploma thesis "Fishermen's Harbour".

In 1943 he traveled to Germany to paint.

Works as a teacher of the Painting Department of the Latvian Academy of Arts (1942-64).

Participates in exhibitions since 1928.

Personal exhibitions were held in Riga (1966, 1981), Cēsis, Jelgava (1966), Madona (1986).

Memorial exhibition in Riga (1992). Member of the association of artists "Sadarbs" (1928-39). From 1944 a member of the Union of Artists.

The main subject of his artworks are landscapes, sometimes with a staffage, small towns, markets, ports, power plants. The color range can be greenish-gray, but some works are in the bright spectrum. Developed a unique method of impressionistic realism painting, in which great importance is given to the special stroke of paintbrush.
