Alexander Zviedris (born 4. VI. Tallinn in 1905 - 1993), painter.

Born in the family of ship mechanic Karl Zviedris. 1911-13 lives in Tukums. Musical Family. Brother Valdemārs – violinist.

The painter spent his childhood in Riga, then the family moved to Moscow, where from 1914 to 1921 he studies at a rural school, later attends a commercial school. The young man often visited museums in Moscow and the Tretyakov Gallery, which encouraged him to focus on art. The future painter attends classes in the studio of artist Jānis Niedrītis, who at that time works in Arkhangelsk, in the north of Russia. 1921 after returning to Riga, the artist works at the Port of Riga, while simultaneously studying at the People's University in the Faculty of Languages. Since 1929 also fond of violin playing and construction. In the 1930s, he was passionate about sports.

1934/35 during the academic year, he attends the drawing course of the Art Academy of Latvia

Under the leadership of K. Brencēns in years 1938/40 A. Zviedris visits the studio of professor, painter J.R. Tillberg. 1938 visits Sweden, Finland, Norway and Denmark on a yacht he has rebuilt, visiting art repositories in these countries. 1939 travels Europe - England, France, Holland and Germany, studying the museums there.

Traveling around Scandinavia by yacht on the sea becomes the main source of inspiration throughout his creative work, becoming one of the most prolific and one of the most popular Latvian mariners.

A. Zviedris has worked in both oil and watercolor techniques. In the 1920s, he travels around Latvia by bicycle, the port of Riga, the views of Gauja and the landscapes of Latgale.

Since 1945 A. Zviedris has been a member of the Artists' Union of Latvia.

The artist's works have been exhibited in domestic, All-Union and foreign exhibitions - in Germany, Japan, England, Sweden, Austria, Lebanon, USA, Austria, Italy, Finland, Belgium, Chile and Egypt.
