Kalnina - Rutina Elza

Old bath-house

Elza Kalnina - Rutina (1902. 18. II Cesu region – 1983. 11. V Riga) – painter and textile artist.

She graduated the private school of needlework by E. Freimane (1921.).

Kalnina learned at art studio of L. Liberts and K. Miesnieks (1925. – 1926.) and at State craft school in Riga (1931. – 1932.).1944. – The graduating of National University, painting department to J. Bine (1944.)

She took part at the exhibitions since 1932. (first picture “Gailardijas”, 1932.Since 1932. – Member of Independent Atist’s Union.Since 1945. – Member of Artist’s Union .She worked as a artist at the School Museum (1931. – 1941.) and as a Scientist co – operator at the Historian Museum.Kalnina – Rutina painted landscapes and portraits (“Self – portrait”, 1947., “Professor J. Endzelins”, 1949.,) and paintings with Latvian national thematic (“The old hothouse”, 1936., “Alsunga”, 1943.).

She made textile art (“The spring”, 1956., “The theme of Staburags”, 1976.).
