            Baumanis studied in Erfurth theology 1773 – 1776 and learned to paint to animalist J. Z. Beka. At the 1776 he returned to Latvia and engaged with painting and agriculture. He was a passionate hunter. His enthusiasm was a traveling around Latvia’s manor houses, painting and hunting very much. After own data he was painted 1713 works.

Baumanis painted mainly animals, still life with game and some portraits.
