Arturs Baumanis (1892-1975)

Painter marinist, scenographer, publicist and teacher.

Born in the tenant's family. He graduated Central Technical School of drawing in Stiglitz in Petrograd, acquired specialty of decorator (1916). During the war period he worked at the Trophy Commission in Petrograd, as Decorator at the Theater of Opera and Drama in Liepaja (1921-30), Visual Art and Art History teacher at Secondary High School nr. 1 and, (parallel, from 1923), Liepaja Art School teacher (1945-63). Since 1924, being a member of the Independent Artists Union and at the Society of Liepaja for the Latvian Art Promotion, participated in exhibitions organized by these associations; personal exhibitions in Liepaja (1967, 1972, together with J. Sudmalis and P. Klavinsh), personal exhibition after death in Riga (1978). Member of the Artists Union since 1960 was chairman of the Liepaja group. He was lector, actively popularized fine Arts. Realist, painted landscapes, mostly marinas, less portraits.
